Jewelry Care & Maintenance
Preserving Your Investment
At Demali&RiverCo, our jewelry is crafted to last a lifetime, but even the finest materials require intentional care. To maintain the GIA-standard brilliance and structural integrity of your piece, we recommend the following guidelines.
1. The "Last On, First Off" Rule
Fine jewelry should be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night.
- Avoid Chemicals: Perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions contain chemicals that can create a film on your diamonds, dulling their natural "fire."
2. Protecting the Setting
While diamonds are the hardest natural substance, the gold and platinum prongs that hold them are malleable.
- The Gym & Gardening: Remove your jewelry before lifting weights, yoga, or any high-impact activity. Contact with metal equipment can bend prongs and cause stones to fall out.
- No Chlorine: Never wear your jewelry in swimming pools or hot tubs. Chlorine can physically weaken gold alloys, leading to stress fractures in the setting.
3. Cleaning Your Stones at Home
To keep your diamonds (especially Asscher and Step-Cuts) looking crisp:
- Soak your piece in warm water with a few drops of mild, grease-cutting dish soap.
- Gently brush the underside of the stone with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove oils.
- Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Note: Avoid using ultrasonic cleaners at home for pieces with many small pavé stones without professional guidance.
4. Professional Inspections
We recommend a professional inspection every 6 months. During this "health check," we verify prong tension, check for thinning metal, and perform a deep ultrasonic cleaning to restore original light performance.
